Chamonix
is Mont Blanc. Although you can't ride down
it, with tallest mountain in Europe overlooking the town Chamonix
has
long been the mecca of serious mountain pursuits and is finally
starting to embrace mountain bikes. Several lifts are open to
bikes in the summer offering huge DH runs of over 20mins over highly
technical rocky and rooty terrain with mind-blowing scenery.
Added to this is a new purpose built DH track which opened last year for a limited period of time but will hopefully run a lot longer this year. The new track at Vallorcine starts off fast and bermed with some awesome fades and creative high speed sections before diving into the steeper part of the hill and onto the rocky singletrack that typifies riding in Chamonix.
There are also a couple of excellent bike (and sandwich!) shops in town.
